Rooftop Football Pitch – Middlesex

Following the submission of a detailed tender, Fieldform were appointed to construct a synthetic turf football pitch on the roof of a new build leisure centre.

Our works package included:

  • Installation of a heavy duty separation membrane
  • Use of a lightweight aggregate to level an apex roof
  • Installation and backfilling a 40mm drainage board with ‘clean’ limestone
  • Levelling works utilising our specialist, hand pulled screed
  • Installation of 80mm drainage crates to provide additional stability
  • Installation of a specialist, fire tested shock pad
  • Installation of a TigerTurf NRG2 synthetic turf carpet – chosen due to the lack of rubber granule infill assisting with ongoing cleaning costs
  • Infilling and line marking
  • Provision of portable football goals
  • Erection of twin bar fencing between the pitch and adjacent viewing area

Works for this project started in early 2025 and despite challenging weather conditions and logistical restrictions were completed within eight weeks.

Prior to starting the construction works we were tasked by the client to create a fire tested rooftop sports system that complied with requirements of external fire exposure to roofs, BS 476-3:2004 and CEN/TS1187:2012 – Test 4, including EN 13501-5 T4 classification.
