Following several site investigations, Fieldform were appointed by Anton Junior School in Andover to refurbish their existing 3G football pitch.
Over the last five years the pitch had gradually become unsafe and no longer suitable for use. Having tested the existing surface with a straight edge it was quickly apparent that the facility was no longer compliant with deviations of +/- 25mm in several locations. Further investigations also uncovered a non-traditional sub base built using rigid PVC boards laid directly over a clay sub soil.
Due to a limited budget the existing facility design threatened the future of the 3G pitch, to combat this we proposed an innovative design using drainage crates overlaid with a dynamic sub base prior to shock pad and carpet installation. This innovative design helped reduce the amount of soil removal, muck away charges and ensured surface heights remained neutral.
The refurbishment works took place in one of the wettest winters the UK has faced in a long time making every step of the process extremely challenging. To overcome the elements we utilised several strategies including:
Lots of hard work and ample waterproofs allowed the Fieldform team to transform a failed facility into a refurbished, 3G synthetic turf football pitch that is now the jewel of the School campus.
The completed facility now boasts a new, 3G synthetic turf carpet manufactured by TigerTurf and is regularly used by pupils, after school clubs and several local junior and adult football clubs.
Client Testimonial
It was such a pleasure to work with James at Fieldform on our large all-weather pitch refurbishment. Polite and professional staff have done an outstanding job on our pitch, with comments of “Wow! It didn’t look that good even when it was first installed!”
James was great to work with, especially with the communications and clarity, step by step during the process. We are delighted with the results. Thank you Fieldform, would 100 % recommend!
